22ND JAN 2017 FROM 10AM
The race day instructions can be downloaded here.
The race declarations for the 10 mile event are here.
There are NO entries on the day for the 10 mile event. Fun run entries can be secured on the day for £5 per person.
The event HQ is Denbies Wine Estate, London Road, Dorking, RH5 6AA. This is a lovely, scenic, mostly traffic free trail run exploring the North Downs Way and Ranmore Common with stunning views of Box Hill, Ranmore and the North Downs. We would describe it as undulating which probably means you need to prepare for something rather hilly! There are 5k and 2.5k fun runs for those who don't want to tackle the whole thing.
Entries in advance are now open. You can enter online by completing the online form at the bottom of this page. (If you enter online, the online fee shown refers to an affiliated member of either UKA or ARC. Those without membership will be charged £2 to cover third party race insurance, the online processing fee has now been incorporated into the online price). The 10 mile event starts at 10am and the fun runs at 10.05am. All 10 mile finishers will receive a medal and chocolate bar post race (entries are required to be 18 or over). Finishers of the fun run will be awarded with a medal and chocolate bar.
Please note, you will not receive anything in the post. Race day instructions can be downloaded here.
View the route here. The route is best described as multi-terrain and hilly. Following trails around the stunning Mole Valley you'll have the opportunity to enjoy the views over Box Hill from the North Downs Way and Dorking and Westcott from Ranmore Common. Of course, what goes up, must come down and you'll find the route peppered with interesting trails, testing hills and wonderful descents which will leave you feeling invigorated (and slightly tired).
There are three water stations en route (water is served in cups). As well as water, jelly babies are also available.
As England's largest vineyard Denbies Wine Estate has been producing award winning wines since 1986. It is the first wine estate in the world to give visitors of all ages a unique and fascinating insight into all aspects of the wine producing process, all year round, with indoor and outdoor tours and tasting.
The vineyards of Denbies Estate are situated on the North Downs with its famous chalky soil, in a protected valley of south facing slopes. A total 265 acres have been planted (three times the size of any other in the UK) and has met the promise of producing some of the finest sparkling and table wines in Europe.
The venue has secue baggage, toilets and changing facilities (sorry, no showers). Refreshments are available for purchase from the restaurant.
Run to Live specialist running shop will be there with lots of goodies.
Health and Safety
There is no doubt this course is challenging. You need to be fit and well to start this race. Do not run if you feel unwell or have recently been unwell, even if you are raising money for charity.
Most medicall emergencies during races occur in people who have been unwell but do not wish to miss the event. If you feel feverish, have been vomiting, have had severe diarrhoea or any chest pains, or otherwise feel unwell, then it is unfair to you, your family, your charity and the race support staff to risk serious illness and become a medical emergency. You are unlikely to do yourself justice and there are many other races that you will be able to compete in.
Please note, in the interest of safety, MP3 players and similar devices using headphones are not allowed. You will be disqualified if you are seen to use them. Our insurance covers you for public liability only. Please be aware you are responsible for your own personal injury insurance cover.
Getting There and Parking
The HQ is situated just off the A24 London Road, Dorking and is close to Junction 9 of the M25. We have secured parking at Friends Life just opposite the Denbies estate. The closest railway stations are Boxhill & Westhumble and Dorking stations which have very good rail links from London Victoria, London Waterloo, Horsham and Guildford. We strongly suggest you come by public transport of you can. Remember to factor in walking time from the train station to the Race HQ. We would estimate a good 15 minute walk depending on which you use.
The race start and finish is outside the main house in the Denbies Estate.
Sussex Sport photography will be on hand to take race photographs for purchase afterwards.
Withdrawals, Transfers and Cancellations
From the moment we begin to organise an event, we start to incur costs. Your entry fee is invested into the cost of staging the event - everythingn from the start and finish venue to printing, safety pins, race numbers, marketing and VAT. Organising any event requires a considerable amount of forward planning, risk and expense. For this reason, we are not able to refund or transfer your entry to another event.
However, in the event you are not able to run, if you can find a replacement, we can transfer your place to them. Please contact Nicky at firstname.lastname@example.org with the full details of your replacement. Please include full name, gender, club, e-mail address, postal address and telephone number plus details of the 'in case of emergency' contact in your e-mail.
The deadline for any changes is two weeks before the event. Most race directors will charge an administration fee for this service, we do not. Please do not run with someone elses number, you will not be covered under our insurance and in the event of you becoming unwell out on the course, we will not have any contact details for you or your family. If you are found to be running with incorrect details, you will be disqualified. If the event cannot go ahead for any reason we will endeavour to contact you by e-mail. We will also post updates on the blog page of our site and through our facebook and twitter accounts. Runners will be given the option of transferring their entry to the revised date (if rescheduled) or another event specified. Because of the huge costs incurred by this event prior to it taking place, no refunds will be offered under any circumstances.
Race Awarding Body
This race is run with an ARC permit under ARC rules.
As always, the success of any race is determined by the selfless volunteering of many marshals. If you would like to help, then please contact Nicky at email@example.com
A donation from the Denbies 10 will go to Brooklands School in Reigate. Brooklands is a primary school for pupils with severe and complex needs including autism aged 2-11.
If you wish to find out more about the great work they do, the link to their website is here. The Friends of Brooklands School is a registered charity No 255861.
