12th June 2016 from 9.30am
Race day instructions are now available to download here. The event is now closed to entries in advance. Entries on the day are available for both the 10k and fun run. Registration opens at 7.30am. Download the start list here.
Supported by Powerbar UK, the event HQ is Polesden Lacey, Great Bookham, Surrey, RH5 6BD. Polesden Lacey is a National Trust property with a beautiful 1400 acre estate with stunning views across the Surrey Hills. It was owned from 1906 by the famous Edwardian hostess, Mrs Greville, who entertained royalty, politicians and the cream of society. The house, with the notably opulent interiors and pricess collection is waiting to be explored. The house is also now the administrative centre for the National Trust. Starting from Polesden Lacey, there is also a 2k fun run for those who don't want to tackle the whole thing.
The event is now closed to entries in advance. Entries on the day are available for both the 10k and fun run. Registration opens at 7.30am.
Your entry fee includes your race entry, free car parking at Polesden Lacey, entry for your and your family to the grounds at Polesden Lacey, and finishers medal and chocolate bar. Entry to the house can be purchased from the National Trust on the day.
Entrants for the 10k need to be age 15 or above, entrants for the fun run may be any age (but under 8's will need to be accompanied by an adult).
Your number will be available to pick up on the day. You will not receive anything in the post. You can download the race day instructions here.
Download a 10k route map here (CP refers to suggested cheering points) and a fun route route map here. The route does a quick tour around the house before leaving the estate by the main gate and immediately turning left and down into the valley. A longish climb up to the Ranmore Road is rewarded with a sense of achievement and the water station before heading back down to Tanners Hatch Youth Hostel. The rest of the course is undulating around the grounds of the Polesden Estate before a big finish on the revered theatre lawn outside the house.
There are two water stations en route (water is served in cups). Jelly babies and Powerbar gels are also available at the water station.
The race HQ is inside the grounds just outside the main house, follow the signs when you get there. There are toilets and limited baggage facilities available, however we do not have any changing facilities so you need to come ready to run.
Run to Live specialist running shop will be there with lots of goodies available to purchase. Refreshments are also available for purchase in the restaurant at Polesden Lacey.
Health and Safety
There is no doubt this course is challenging. You need to be fit and well to start this race. Do not run if you feel unwell or have recently been unwell, even if you are raising money for charity.
Most medicall emergencies during races occur in people who have been unwell but do not wish to miss the event. If you feel feverish, have been vomiting, have had severe diarrhoea or any chest pains, or otherwise feel unwell, then it is unfair to you, your family, your charity and the race support staff to risk serious illness and become a medical emergency. You are unlikely to do yourself justice and there are many other races that you will be able to compete in.
Please note, in the interest of safety, MP3 players and similar devices using headphones are not allowed. You will be disqualified if you are seen to use them. Our insurance covers you for public liability only. Please be aware you are responsible for your own personal injury insurance cover.
Getting There and Parking
The HQ is Polesden Lacey, Great Bookham, Surrey, RH5 6BD. The venue is situated just off the A246 Leatherhead to Guildford Road. The closest rail station is Bookham (approximately three miles away) with good rail links from London Victoria and Guildford. Parking is plentiful at Polesden Lacey, please follow the directions of the car park marshals, or even better come by public transport or cycle.
The race start and finish is near the theatre lawn in the grounds of Polesden. Follow the signs to registration on your arrival. The start is a three minute walk from registration and will be fully sign posted.
Sussex Sport photography will be on hand to take race photographs for purchase afterwards.
Withdrawals, Transfers and Cancellations
From the moment we begin to organise an event, we start to incur costs. Your entry fee is invested into the cost of staging the event - everything from the start and finish venue to printing, safety pins, race numbers, marketing and VAT. Organising any event requires a considerable amount of forward planning, risk and expense. For this reason, we are not able to refund or transfer your entry to another event.
However, in the event you are not able to run, if you can find a replacement, we can transfer your place to them. Please contact Nicky at firstname.lastname@example.org with the full details of your replacement. Please include full name, gender, club, e-mail address, postal address and telephone number plus details of the 'in case of emergency' contact in your e-mail.
The deadline for any changes is two weeks before the event. Most race directors will charge an administration fee for this service, we do not. Please do not run with someone else's number, you will not be covered under our insurance and in the event of you becoming unwell out on the course, we will not have any contact details for you or your family. If you are found to be running with incorrect details, you will be disqualified. If the event cannot go ahead for any reason we will endeavour to contact you by e-mail. We will also post updates on the blog page of our site and through our facebook and twitter accounts. Runners will be given the option of transferring their entry to the revised date (if rescheduled) or another event specified. Because of the costs incurred by this event prior to it taking place, no refunds will be offered under any circumstances.
Race Awarding Body
This race is run with an ARC permit under ARC rules.
As always, the success of any race is determined by the selfless volunteering of many marshals. If you would like to help, then please contact Nicky at email@example.com
A donation from the Polesden Lacey 10k will be donated to the National Trust.
